Do we want a future of what we can do?
OR
Do we want a future of what God can do?
(from Part 1 of The Question)
I believe we all know in the stillness of our hearts as God’s children, God wants to do more in us and through us and for His glory. God is looking for a people He can trust with His glory and His power to represent His Son.
Rock Bridge, this season, this time must be different. Our answer to “The Question” must last longer than one weekend or one worship service! We cannot let this just be a “moment” we remember but rather a movement that we join!
We know joining this movement begins with a real commitment to pray or to “pray until we pray.” Allow me to share how we can move forward.
1) Allow the possibilities, potential, and purpose of prayer to energize and excite us.
Jonathan Edwards, who was part of the First Great Awakening in America, said this:
When God has something very great to accomplish for His church, it is His will that there should precede it, the extraordinary prayers of His people. And it is revealed that when God is about to accomplish great things for His church, He will begin by remarkably pouring out the Spirit of grace and supplication.
2) Declare war on pride and ask God for true humility.
The question for us is not if we have pride but rather where it is in us and how is it showing up in our lives.
Edwards is again helpful:
The spiritually proud person is apt to find fault with [others] … but the humble Christian has much to do at home, and sees so much evil in his own heart … that he is apt not to be very busy with others’ [sins] … He is apt to esteem others better than himself. (Philippians 2:3)
3) Walk forward together with our church family.
Our faith, growth, staying strong against the enemy, and participation in God’s mission on earth are all a community project. In other words, all of me needs God’s “we.”
Please consider participating in the following “we” activities as we move forward together:
- Wednesday, January 13th @ 6:30 pm https://rockbridgecc.online.church/
- I’ll teach a great method to help us all pray until we pray.
- Afterward, we’ll do a Q & A about anything “we” want to talk about as God’s people.
- The Question, Part 2 → this weekend at all six campuses and online
- Wednesday, January 20th: Church-wide Prayer & Fasting
- Details TBD
4) Hope as high as heaven: there is great expectancy in great dependency upon God.
One of Paul’s great prayers is found in Ephesians 3:14-21. Paul begins his prayer kneeling in humility and dependence upon God. But he ends his prayer expectantly and with the highest hopes His faith in God allows, saying “… all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
The best is yet to come Rock Bridge!
Moving forward together.
